My Favorite Carry System

Everyone has a favorite handgun as well as a favorite holster or other concealed method of carry. The choice of brand, caliber and concealment holster is as diversified as the various types of automobiles people drive. Many choices are based upon affordability as well as availability.

I have carried many different models of handguns both revolvers and automatics and caliber's from 38+p to 45 acp. When the reality that my life would probably depend greatly upon the choice of handgun, caliber and concealment hardware I use, I made a major change in my equipment. I chose the 45 ACP as my protection round because of stopping power and the availability and versatility of ammunition.

After many trials, tests and visits to the gun shows and websites, I found what I consider to be the ultimate carry handgun as well as a comfortable and easily accessible concealment holster. Now that I have completed many hours of practice with both shooting and drawing from concealment, I feel that I now posses the ultimate combination for concealed carry and self defense.

My choice is as follows:

I chose the Para Ordnance "Carry 12", 3.5" SS in 45 acp. This is a double action 1911 clone that comes from the factory as ready for carry action as you could desire. The gun is only 34 ounces with a stainless steel frame and slide and carries one round in the chamber and 12 rounds in the double stacked clip. This concealed version is quite the powerhouse and is factory equipped with night sights. The only modification I made was to add finger groove wrap around rubber grips from Pearce Grip. In fact, my wife and Mother-in-law both carry Para Carry 12s!

With the LDA double action trigger, this is the finest handgun I have ever owned. I invite anyone to try the trigger of a Para LDA (Light Double Action). My mother-in-law's CHL instructor (a dyed-in-the-wool Colt-lover with 30 years of extensive firearms experience) test-fired her Model CTX1245N right out of the box, and said, "Man, I gotta have one of these!"

I chose a Galco Royal Guard I.W.B. holster for my daily carry and it is so comfortable, I hardly know it's there (Quite the statement for a big bore handgun). I also purchased a Galco Ultra Deep Cover Tuckable for those situations where I wear a tucked in shirt and no jacket or vest.

Just in case the 13 rounds are not enough, I also carry a Galco double

magazine pouch with two 12 round loaded mags.

I use Federal Hydra-Shok Jacketed Hollow Point 165 grain Personal Defense ammunition. Sure, I spent some money, but when it comes to my life or the life of my family members, I want to be sure that I can stop an aggressor.

REMEMBER: You get what you pay for!
